The Kente Cloth

Kente...A Cloth to be reverenced. "Kente is more than just a cloth. Like most of Africa's visual art forms, Kente is a representation of history, philosophy, ethics, oral literature, religious belief, social values and political thought." "In the past, these designs were reserved for royalty, exclusive for the Asantehene (Asante King) and the weaving of this cloth was shrouded in secrecy. Weavers working on the kings cloth were only allowed to weave indoors...in the olden days, when there was a commission, the king would provide lining cloth, pomade (an ointment or balm) and candles, along with the order. The lining cloth was to be placed underneath the new cloth as it was woven to prevent it from getting dirty."

Although a lot has changed since then, we recognise the history and soul of the cloth remains of utmost importance to our valued clientele. So at Kente Kingdom, we’re committed to the mission of providing only the highest quality and latest Kente designs on the market woven only, by the most experienced and skilful weavers of Ghana. With exclusivity eternal to what we do, one can only describe the Kente Kingdom cloth as a cloth fit for royalty because this, is Sankofa.
